ROTARY CLUB OF PUNE CENTRAL

GG2459705 Gift of Vision Cataract Surgery project

Objective: Our initiative aims to reduce “Avoidable Blindness” in India, where 12 million people suffer from treatable conditions like cataracts. We focus on providing free cataract surgeries and care to economically disadvantaged individuals, particularly in rural areas.

Progress: In collaboration with H.V. Desai Eye Hospital, the Poona Blind Men’s Association has performed 2,550 cataract surgeries, with 33 additional surgeries funded by the Rotary Grant Regional Center, bringing the total to 2,583—surpassing our goal of 2,550.

Impact: This project has restored sight to many, improving their quality of life and independence, especially in underserved rural communities.

Conclusion: We are proud of exceeding our target, with 2,583 successful surgeries completed. We remain committed to expanding this program and continuing our fight against avoidable blindness.

Total funding: INR 89,00,000
